Discover inspiring sounds from around the globe!
From Afrobeat to Zouk, via the Bossa Nova, Cumbia, Ragas, Reggae and Salsa, the programmes will highlight artists and folk music from every corner of the planet as UK music producer and sound designer Clive Williamson de simbiosis introduces his favourites from ‘The World on his iPod.’
Listen out for themed shows including: ‘Brasil & Colombia’; ‘Around Africa’; ‘Exploring Europe’; ‘The Americas’; and more… featuring an hour of the best Indian, Oriental, Latin and Caribbean music.
Clive worked regularly as a sound engineer in London with DJs including John Peel and Annie Nightingale, and on BBC Radio 3’s ‘Late Junction’. He produced ‘The Science of Sound’ for Radio 4 and the World Service before forming the group Symbiosis, creating music for relaxation and albums of nature sounds from Australia and New Zealand.


Edición 1 – Brasil and Colombia
This first programme includes Clive’s favourite pieces by Gilberto Gil, Sergio Mendes, Carlos Vives and Shakira; and styles like Cumbia, Vallenato and Samba-Reggae. He also plays a Brazilian-influenced tune by his own group, Simbiosis (con el flautista John Hackett) and some natural sounds he recorded in the Amazon region of Colombia.

Edición 2 – Around Africa
Music from around the Africa continent, including Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Cape Verde and South Africa, and featuring pieces by Fela Kuti; King Sunny Ade; Miriam Makeba; Ladysmith Black Mambazo and many more. Also includes an African-influenced work by presenter Clive Williamson’s own group Symbiosis, with John Hackett on flute.

Edición 3 – India & East Asia
Highlighting music from India, Japón, Tibet, Tuva and China, and including artists: The Beatles; Ravi Shankar; actor Saeed Jaffrey and exiles Yungchen Lhamo and Sainkho Namtchylak. New music from Anoushka Shankar and includes two world-influenced pieces by presenter Clive Williamson’s own group Symbiosis.

Edición 4 – Exploring Europe
Devon-based music producer and sound designer Clive Williamson shares some of his favourite music from Europe, including pieces from France, Italia, Alemania, Switzerland and Portugal. Featured artists include Kraftwerk; Vicente Amigo; Yves Montand; Kroke from Poland (using a clock as a metronome!); Dutch singer Mathilde Santing and Portugese ‘fadista’ (Fado singer) Carminho. Nearer to home, we also hear emerging Irish singer Fintan McKahey, a Spanish-inspired guitar piece by Clive’s group Symbiosis, and a tribute to the Totnes trio ‘Jambones’.

Edición 5 – World Fusions
In this programme: music which combines influences from two or more countries or genres. Devon-based music producer and sound designer Clive Williamson shares favourites from his iPod and discovers new music too, including work by Tito Puente, Gotan Project, Deep Forest, Nat ‘King’ Cole and Zap Mama. There’s reggae from Ivory Coast, bossa nova from Spain and salsa sung in French…
