We are very sad to hear from the Pūkaha National Wildlife Centre in New Zealand that their much loved and adored female Kōkako, “Kahurangi” has passed away.
As a charming and cheeky representative of her endangered species, this beautiful bird touched the hearts of many visitors to the Pūkaha Centre and will be sorely missed. We felt privileged to meet her and to hear her lovely “kōkako” call first hand while making recordings of NZ’s nature in 2017 for the album New Zealand Naturally.
