Feel Free on the A303
by Clive Williamson & Jonny Bidgood
We would like Warner Chappell to publish our new interpolation of ‘Route 66’!
……
Dear Sir or Madam,

We are trying to contact the current publishers of “(Get your Kicks on) Route 66” [written by Bobby Troup in 1946; Publisher: Chappell-Morris Ltd.]. We gather that Chappell-Morris became Chappell Music Ltd. and we are hoping that it is now part of Warner Chappell Music Ltd.?
If so, we would like to let you know that we have written and recorded a new interpolation of the song, and we are hoping that you would be able to publish this new version, in much the same way that Chappell Music Ltd. published Billy Bragg’s (considerably more agitated) version, re-titled “A13 – Trunk Road to the Sea” back in about 1997.
‘We’ are:
Clive Williamson – A musician, producer and sound designer who founded the UK ambient group Symbiosis, which currently has albums of relaxing music and nature sound recordings on iTunes, Amazon etc, and a total of 2 million streams on Spotify and Apple music to date. (Symbiosis also features John Hackett – brother of Steve Hackett – on flute.) Clive is an ex-BBC radio producer, interviewer & studio manager and currently presents programmes on Soundart Radio in Devon.
Jonny Bidgood – A very experienced musician, singer and studio engineer, currently working as ‘Jonny B’ on his debut album ‘No Time Like The Present’, described as, “a powerful collection of original songs, this record blends heartfelt lyrics, rich acoustic tones, and Jonny’s unmistakable voice to create something truly timeless.”
Our new interpolation is much more than a ‘cover version’ and is essentially a new lyric to go with Bobby Troup’s original tune, written in the spirit of the original song, but with approximately 85% of the words entirely re-written to reflect a light-hearted journey from London to the South-West of England. Musically, it is an up-dated cross between Nat ‘King’ Cole and Les Paul’s sound!
Below, please find a complete recording of the song and some of our new lyrics. The intension is to include the track on Jonny’s forthcoming album, due for release later this year. Do please let us know if we are ‘in the right place’ to make this request. We look forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours faithfully,
Clive Williamson & Jonny Bidgood

‘Feel Free on the A303′ by Clive Williamson & Jonny Bidgood:
Example lyrics:
“If you ever need to motor west,
Travel my way, take the highway that’s the best.
Feel free on the A 3-oh-3!
It gets you from West London to Torbay…
Nearly one hundred miles all the way.
You’ll feel free on the A 3-oh-3!
Well, it starts out at Popham, where nothing can stop ‘em,
Then passing Andover, the cows roll in clover!
At Stonehenge you’ll go slow – then it’s the Blackdown Hills…
Racing at Wincanton: try to keep your hat on!
Hampshire, Wiltshire, Somerset n’Devon!”
and so on…

"Very catchy and super-chilled, would definitely have it on in the car driving."
