Aotearoa Naturally – Forest & Bird Sounds of NZ – EP

by Clive Williamson & Symbiosis

Discover wonderful nature sounds from Aotearoa – ‘The Land of the Long White Cloud’ – through this EP of New Zealand’s beautiful birdsong and soothing natural soundscapes.

The opening track, ‘The Spirit of Summer, NZ’ is a relaxing symphony of birds, streams, cicadas, a waterfall and gentle waves. Journey to: the Waitakere Ranges; Ark in the Park; Tiritiri Matangi Island; and Shakespear Regional Park in the Auckland region, to hear birdsong from the Tūī, Fantail (Pīwakawaka), Silvereye, Australian Magpie, Morepork, Saddleback (Tīeke), Weka… and many more!

Other natural locations visited include Kapiti Island; the Waitomo Caves and Rotorua; and the Pacific Coast in the Kaikoura region. There is also a special track: ‘Songs of Hope’, that highlights the extraordinary dawn chorus on Tiritiri Matangi Island Nature Reserve, featuring a throng of Tūī and Bellbirds (Korimako) at sunrise.

The recordings were made in NZ by sound designer and music producer Clive Williamson from the acclaimed UK relaxation music group Symbiosis. Clive trained with the BBC in London and has brought all his sound expertise and musical sensibility to create these ‘postcards in sound’ from a remarkable natural haven.

Four tracks; playing time 20′ 54″.

These sounds have been selected from the albums: New Zealand Naturally; Songs of Hope (The Dawn Chorus, Tiritiri Matangi Island, New Zealand); and The Heart of Nature by Clive Williamson & Symbiosis.)

NB: This EP is available as a free download to members of the Forest & Bird Conservation Origanization in New Zealand.

(Some of the tracks on this EP were previously released on the album ‘AOTEAROA – Nature Sounds of New Zealand’ by Symbiosis.)

Clive Williamson began recording sounds of nature on a visit to New Zealand, and now that streaming of Symbiosis nature sounds alone has exceeded 3 million streams on Spotify and Apple Music, he feels strongly that it is time to ‘give something back’ to the environment. “We have already supported Butterfly Conservation in the UK and New Zealand’s Tiritiri Matangi Island Nature Reserve,” says Clive, “and now we thrilled to be to be releasing music through Sounds Right and contributing to ecology globally! Our first EP ‘featuring NATURE’ as an artist in its own right is: An Apology to Planet Earth.”

Symbiosis are: John Hackett (flutes and guitar); Richard Bolton (guitars and cello) and Clive Williamson (keyboards, percussion, flute and voice).
